She was born to rule, but her heart seeks to rule her .
Blood, scheming, murder— it’s all vampires know and do so well. But Davina is their new Queen. She’ll be damned if her reign is defined by how many are killed. The only thing is, her biggest champion and love, Alexios, is still as ruthless as ever. When past guilt leads her to make an impulsive decision that unleashes vengeance and fury on her, she wonders if she’s cut out to rule these bloodthirsty vampires. And most importantly, whether her burgeoning relationship with Alexios will survive?
If protecting her means getting blood on his hands, then so be it .
There’s not a day that goes by that Alexios doesn’t burn to have Davina all to himself. But her royal court schemes against her, and a band of humans plot vampire genocide. He’s eager to snap some necks, but Davina rebukes his methods. He’ll fight not only for her throne but for her love. But with the royal divide between them pulling her further away from his grasp, can he finally win his heart’s desire?
Davina loved times like this—lying close on silken sheets, letting tranquil peacefulness communicate their easy companionship now they’d acknowledged their commitment to each other.
“I love you, Alexios,” she whispered. She couldn’t remember the last time she said it.
A smile tugged at his lips, but his eyes remained closed.
“I won’t let anything or anyone come between us,” she said, more a promise to herself.
She twisted a black curl around her finger, transfixed by the smooth feel of it. Alexios hummed his agreement. He enjoyed her attentions, her caresses in these few moments they shared, and she was reluctant to break the lulling cocoon that wove around them. One currently keeping at bay the complications of their public lives.
Davina closed her eyes and felt the bond pulsing strongly between them. Soon, they would be formally mated and even closer. She looked forward to it. But she willed the coming day’s activities away. She didn’t want to deal with her ministers, her sireling— her responsibilities. She wished she and Alexios could remain in their private bubble, still and connected like this, forever.
“I love you too, Davina. More than you can ever know,” he murmured.
Hearing those words filled her heart with fire and a possessiveness that rivaled his. She opened her eyes, and the intensity of his love greeted her, taking her breath away. Tears stung, and her face heated.
They gazed at each other for a few moments before Davina ached to feel his lips again. This feels good. This is good. And so right, she thought as she crushed her lips to his.
She wouldn’t let anyone or anything come between them.
Nicki Ruth is a romantic at heart who loves a bit of history, a splash of adventure, and all things paranormal, especially vampires, shifters, fae, and all others. An avid reader, Nicki's debut novel, Dark Blooded Desires, began as a dream of a dark-haired, brooding stranger gazing into the deep recesses of space. This became chapter one.
She loves good food, good wine, and good friends, and writes from her balcony overlooking a parking lot.
