When Katie Met Cassidy

By Camille Perri

Publication Date: June 19, 2018
Genre: Fiction, Humor, Romance, Lesbian Literautre

When it comes to Cassidy, Katie can't think straight.

Katie Daniels, a twenty-eight-year-old Kentucky transplant with a strong set of traditional values, has just been dumped by her fiancé when she finds herself seated across a negotiating table from native New Yorker Cassidy Price, a sexy, self-assured woman wearing a man's suit. While at first Katie doesn't know what to think, a chance meeting on a West Village street later that night leads them both to the Metropolis, a dimly lit lesbian dive bar that serves as Cassidy's second home.

The night offers straightlaced Katie a glimpse into a wild yet fiercely tight-knit community, one in which barrooms may as well be bedrooms, and loyal friends fill in the spaces absent families leave behind. And in Katie, Cassidy finds a chance to open her heart in new ways. Soon their undeniable connection will bring into question everything each of them thought they knew about sex and love.

From the acclaimed author of The Assistants comes another gutsy book about the importance of women taking the reins - this time, when it comes to love, sex, and self-acceptance. Written with Camille Perri's signature wry wit and charm, When Katie Met Cassidy is a fun, fast-paced romantic comedy about gender and sexuality, and the importance of figuring out who we are in order to go after what we truly want.

Review & Wrap-Up:

This month BOTM I decided to go with an LGBTQ novel in honor of Gay Pride month. I was a little nervous when I first picked it up, not knowing what I was getting myself into.  I have never read a LGBTQ novel before and I didn't quite know what to expect. On top of that, most people that I told what I was reading always got a slightly scared look on their face's when I would say, "When Katie Met Cassidy. It's a lesbian romance."  Want to freak a slightly closed-minded person out, try saying that sentence to them!

When Katie meets Cassidy, she is a walking wreck. Katie and her fiance of four plus years have just broken up due to him leaving her for her closest friend. Cassidy sees Katie and invites her out for a drink (as a friend) to Cassidy's local watering hole: The Met, a lesbian dive-bar. Katie almost doesn't accept the invite, nervous and a little weird-ed out that a lesbian is asking her out, but she doesn't want to be alone and she is strangely drawn to this person. And from here their relationship grows and blossoms.

All nerves and strange and funny reactions aside, I really enjoyed this book. When Katie Met Cassidy was a sweet and fun young romance with a moral lesson to be learned: how can you truly be happy if you don't know who you truly are?

While I just finished When Katie Met Cassidy (and have already started my next book), I will find myself staring off into space thinking about it, and wondering, if the story had continued, where Katie and Cassidy's lives would be now. I hope their lives are going as well as I imagine them to be!

Dani's Score out of 5: 📚📚📚📚📚

Pair it with: The Other red blend by Peirano Estate Vineyards

The blend consists of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 10% Syrah.

One is immediately struck by the vibrant color of this wine. The aromas of black cherry, raspberry, candied fruit and dried cranberries are complemented by spicy, toasty oak notes. Upon washing this liquid across the palate, a wave of sweet dried cherries, cranberry, and raspberries, with a hint of light toast, leads to a long, totally seductive, finish. This wine has a “too die for” rich velvety mouth-feel. The blend gives a great expression of each of the grape varieties, marrying all those individual characteristics to produce a wine that will gently knock your socks off. ‘The Other’ is a perfect accompaniment to a variety of cuisines.
