ARC Review - Saving Grace
(A Broken Heart Series, #1)
By Vi Carter
Publication Date: October 25, 2018
Genre: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance
Grace knows that the only way she can survive life is to bury her past.
But nothing stays buried forever...
It’s been two years since she lost so much. Two years since she started a new life, in a new college, with a new group of friends. Two years, and now her troubles are rushing back.
When Derek walks into Grace’s life, he makes her feel things she’d hoped never to feel again. The box she hid all her secrets in is opening, and Grace might not be able to keep it shut this time.
As each of her traumas resurfaces, Grace isn’t sure having Derek at her side is enough to save her. And if he’s not, Grace isn’t sure she’ll come out the other side fully intact.
If you like “The Problem with Forever” by Jennifer L Armentrout or “Hopeless” by Colleen Hoover, then Saving Grace will feed your addiction for a romance with real-life struggles.
When Vi Carter isn't writing, you can find her reading her favorite authors, baking, taking photos or watching Netflix.
Married with one child, Vi divides her time between motherhood and all the other hats she wears as an Author.
Vi's main goal is to give readers the same emotional ride that she got from reading Colleen Hoover and Jennifer L. Armentrout books.
A friend asked me when I first posted that I was reading Saving Grace if it would make her blush. At the time, I had just started it, so I didn't know what kind of blushing would be happening. Did Saving Grace make me blush? A couple times, but not to the point of feeling awkward reading it in public!
Grace reminds me a lot of myself, and so I connected with her rather quickly. She has a history that she doesn't like to talk about, no matter how close you are to her. She believes that death follows her and takes those she loves, so while she has several friends, none of them are extremely close. That is until Derek makes his way into her life.
Derek also has a secret, one that is linked very close to Grace, and he can't let her find out. This extremely attractive man (which looks nothing like the man on the cover, by the way, and yes, this did drive me a bit crazy) makes it his business to follow Grace, befriends her, and eventually to save her. From what? She won't tell him.
Vi Carter has a love story to tell, albeit a story, and intimacy just comes with the territory. The bedroom was not the whole focus, and I appreciate that. Some romance novels are all about the sex and nothing else. This is not so with Saving Grace. It was really sweet - with a couple of very brief rosy cheek scenes - and an actual story. A story that I got very interested in and am very happy to see that this is only book one in a series!

From one bookaholic to another, I hope I’ve helped you find your next fix.

When US Marine Logan Thibault finds a photograph of a smiling young woman half-buried n the dirt during his third tour of duty in Iraq, hie first instinct is to toss it aside. Instead, he brings it back to the base for someone to claim, but when no one does, he finds himself always carrying the photo in his pocket. Soon Thibault experiences a sudden streak of luck, winning poker games and even surviving deadly combat that kills two of his closest buddies. Only his best friend, Victor, seems to have an explanation for his good fortune: the photograph - his lucky charm.
Back home in Colorado, Thibault can't seem to get the photo - and the woman in it - out of his mind. Believing that she somehow holds the key to his destiny, he sets out on a journey across the country to find her, never expecting the strong but vulnerable woman he encounters in Hampton, North Carolina - Elizabeth, a divorced mother with a young son - to be the girl he's been waiting his whole life to meet.
Caught off guard by the attraction he feels, Thibault keeps the story of the photo, and his luck, a secret. As he and Elizabeth embark upon a passionate and all-consuming love affair, the secret he is keeping will soon threaten to tear them apart - destroying not only their love, but also their lives.
Filled with tender romance and terrific suspense, The Lucky One is Nicholas Sparks at his best - an unforgettable story about the surprising paths our lives often take and the power of fate to guide us to true and everlasting love. (Grand Central Publishing)
